Reviews
Henri Rousseau fits tightly in the history of art. He put Naive art into a necessary and an important category. There is no one like him and there was no one in Paris who was doing what he was doing in his time during the 1800's. His work keeps fresh and I do believe it is one reason for his popularity. One can never tire of his jungles and his portraits that bring joy to one's soul. This book , especially, shows with full page color photographs the power of these images. Explaining his desire to travel, yet secretly most of his works came from postcards and magazine ads. This is just one of Rousseau's secrets revealed in this text. I have the very large hardback book on this artist and I do believe this book is just as insightful in it's thick 269 pages. One special treat is each painting is named and tells a bit of it's history. For the price ........ you can not miss!
