Reviews
This book is special. Published in 1986, I bought it in the early 2020; And I got to say that the reproductions they did back then are way BETTER than the best Taschen and Prestel published books today. Actually it is not so strange as it may sound- the best comics in the 1980's are printed in much higher quality than the current laser-printed drivel. What is amazing about this book is that they got the PAPER right- it is a unique, very thin parchment type paper that has zero gloss and a curious gesso-like texture that reproduces a wall fresco perfectly - much, MUCH better than any regular paper. In fact, you may get fooled you are looking at an actual fresco wall, as the light is reflected as if off fresco! And the pixels are pretty non-existent - not sure how the resolution is so good but it is. Actually, if you simply want to have the best reproductions of frescos by Fra Angelico - well, this is it. A Thirty four year old book that is a marvel of publishing art. Shows current Taschen and Prestel a pair of heels and that these modern publishers still have ways to go. Cheers!
